Barney McKenna of the Dubliners passed. He more or less created what is now known as the “Irish Tenor Banjo”. Originally a mandolin player, he tuned the short scale tenor banjo to GDAE like a mandolin instead of the usual CGDA and brought it to popularity in his 50 years of playing in the band.
